Promises Made

Back to back do our plans add up
Or weigh us down like sand or stone?
Uncertain days awake me now
My darkest dreams have flown

Unnerved by talk of plans and schemes
All these possibilities
Scared to see a root take hold
I tremble and I freeze.

You think I'm afraid of the promises I gave
You're right. Could it be?
That I'm still afraid of loving you

Mingled, still, upon the bed
Light a diamond in the room
Your gentle words reach out to me
It's love, we both assume

For a moment let's take the time to see
Why we always run aground
Do you ever think about another
Life you've not yet found?

You think I'm afraid of the promises I gave
You're right. Could it be?
That I'm still afraid of loving you

Unbalanced by my lack of faith
I question all that moves.
No good thing came from scrutiny
What am I trying to prove?

You think I'm afraid of the promises I gave
You're right. Could it be?
That I'm still afraid of loving you

You think I'm afraid of the promises I gave
You're right. Could it be?
That I'm still afraid of loving you
That I'm still afraid of loving you
