I Go Back

This train moves on like my memoryís momentum
Past fields of gold and green and waters deep and golden
We slow at smoky cities, watch from windows platform kisses
And at every fleeting station I hear loversí conversation

I go back, I go back, straight to her waiting arms.
I go back, I go back, memory returning like a prayer
Gives me the strength to give and the peace to take
All the love this short life offers

Mirror faces at the window, past and present close to me,
A shifting scene of who we are and who we wanna be
I see a motherless son, a child who canít beguile.
Memory phantoms talking with us, talking all the while

I go back, I go back, straight to her waiting arms
I go back, I go back, memory returning like a prayer
Gives me the strength to give and the peace to take
All the love this short life offers.

These steel wheels run over every sacred mile
Blessed train in motion, change to reconcile us all

I go back, I go back, straight to her waiting arms.
I go back, I go back, memory returning like a prayer
Gives me the strength to give and the peace to take
All the love this short life offers
All the love this short life offers
